Everywhere is cheaper than the UK for filling your car up

My friend in Canada was complaining how was nearly $1/l in Canada. That's about £0.40/l.

And fuel taxes in Canada are quite high too.

Maybe the solution is to lower taxes on petrol and diesel and actually start charging some on aviation fuel. ie: rebalance things. Your vacations may become more expensive..but your daily commute will become cheaper.

The currency rate from Canada is better - about $2.20/£. The only other thing is bank charges. Some banks/cards will charge for the priviledge.

Nationwide credit and debit cards have no loading, charges or other hidden nastiness. You get the day's money market rate and that's it.

I think it is still the only major financial institute that does that.

Just browsing around the net. and I'm shocked - but not surprised - at what a rip-off even the net is in the UK.
- checking out books on Amazon...found most books are the similar price in £ to the $US.
- TOYRUS - most stuff is higher in £ than the $US- yikes. But then those of us with kids already knew the UK was a ripoff.
- Computers....sigh same story.

Given that the UK pays more for housing, transport, food, and nearly everything else. I have two questions:
1. how the heck can we afford to live here
2. how does the government claim this is a competitive economy - does the rest of Europe suck worse?
