    You should go. You're representing your business, it shows a level of professional conduct.

    Go, show your face, do a bit of networking and then leave for a better night out with your partner.

    1 - You should probably arrange with your agent if he will be paying a day rate or hourly rate for the pleasure of your company.
    Also will it be time and a half for after hours or double time for weekends?

    3 - This question should be "What should I tell the wife?". I recommend telling her you're working late and will be meeting up with your agent and a prospective client afterwards for drinks and to discuss a new opportunity.

    1. Networking, my boy, networking. It doesn't do any harm to get your face known.
    2. Everything. It is a work-related meeting with one of your customers, is it not?
    3. I don't because I don't like her seeing me make an utter fool of myself in public ... which I usually do!
