It's probably a combination of some systemic racism and the fact that much of inner city black culture sees the usual route to success (doing well at school etc) as being "white". There is, as usual, a combination of factors to blame.

The smartest/best educated may not be getting caught, or know how close they can sail into the wind without getting caught, or know other immoral legal ways of getting on. So perhaps more education is what’s needed.

Which is it?

The reason black criminals commit crime is not because their skin is black, but because they are thieving criminals.

And the reason they are thieving criminals is complex, but could be blamed on rap music, bad parenting, bad schools, and numerous other things.

The only thing it has to do with their skin colour is the fact that there for some reason is great black self-identity, but unfortunately the identity is frequently with a culture of crime.

Probably more drug mules are Black, offered a way out of poverty in home country ansd entry into UK to take drugs. Combine this with many Somali's etc being bottom of pecking order for jobs or being prevented from working as asylum seekers should make up the rest of the shortfall.

Also traditionally more face to face crimes tend to be comitted by Blacks - Mugging & street robbery so they are more likely to be nicked. The whites tend to do more burglaries so aren't so likely to be caught.

Many may be imported as soldiers for Yardie gangs, many aspire to gang membership with the illegallity that normally entails so get done that way.

loads of reasons, but basically if we nicked every serious criminal then the figures may well be balanced.

At the risk of falling for this one, I wonder why we don't have figures for other factors that may or may not have a causal relationship to criminality but the causal link has not been established?

I wonder what the proportion of people called "Colin" that are in prison is compared to the proportion of people that are called "Dave".

What proportion of people that were born on a Friday are in prison compared to those that were born on a Wednesday?

What proportion of people who ate a cornish pasty at least once last year are in prison compared to the proportion of people that didn't?

I could go on.

What if you factor in social background?

What's the % of black people in jail from middle class backgrounds. What about white. What's the % of white people from poor backgrounds etc.
