If you are intending to be away for more than one year, you can apply to be non-resident from your first day away. ( Notwithstanding 91 days of visits etc. ).You have to be ex UK for 1 clear tax year to become ... non-resident.

wrong.Originally posted by The Lone Gunman View PostYou have to be ex UK for 1 clear tax year to become non domiciled.
1) you can spend up to 91 days in the UK
2) you mean non resident. You can never become non domiciled by moving away temporarily.

No they haven't changed the rule. The 181 day rule only apples to people who were here for zero days the year before and the year after. If you are in the UK year on year you have to be absent for 274 days to cease to be resident for that one year.

In Switzerland, if you're rich enough, you tell the tax authorities of various cantons and communities that you're interested in moving there, and ask them how much tax they'd require you to pay.
Even for an ordinary earner, a move from one town to another can result in a tax saving of a few hundred swiss francs a month.
You can only get a gun as a foreigner if you've a permanent resident "C" permit. Usually an EU citizen gets their C-permit after 5 years. There's a few other checks and restrictions as well.
Personally, I think he's going to Switzerland to be closer to the ski resorts.

He was looking in Monte Carlo, and surely that's a better tax haven, not to mention the traditional home for racing drivers. Seems a bit odd to me.

You have to leave to become non-resident for tax purposesOriginally posted by AtW View PostStrange situation - surely he travels around the world for all these competitions so he can easily spent more than 181 days per year outside of UK and therefore not be a tax resident?

Maybe he was caught by IR35? Team orders seem direction and control and I doubt he is allowed to substitute!Tags: None
