The left are intellectuals. All rational people will agree with them. Therefore if you disagree with them, you are irrational. No need to have a debate, or discussion, just do what the left wing intellectuals tell you. Or off to the gulag's with you!Last edited by NotAllThere; 29 October 2007, 14:28.

Thought of Iran having bomb is awful but no point in action that will not work. Iran is not Libya.
No expert on bombs but considering that nuclear bombs can be exploded deep underground in Nevada without significant effect on the surface, am sceptical of the idea that a conventional bomb could remove facilities hundreds of feet down. Even assuming the location is known.
US Republicans grossly overestimate their miliitary capability. The US may have a lot of weaponry but they are handicapped by being civilised and a democracy. They can't tackle enemies effectively because they cannot do what is necessary regardless of civilian casualties. When the good ol' US citizen sees hundreds of body bags and billions of dollars spent with no obvious results they want out and in practice the US keeps getting wupped.
It is a pity that the idiot Bush has so little grasp of diplomacy. Far more could have been done to keep Russia on side. Putin's suspicions of the shield are quite justifiable in my view. Nature is on our side in Iran too, many Iranians hate the regime. I reckon some US dollars spent on the right people (how about US sponsored porn sites) would do more good than bunker bombs.
PS Indeed on nuking. There was an article in New Scientist a few weeks back on likely effect of even a small nuclear war. With fall out and obscuration enormous numbers would die around the world.Last edited by xoggoth; 29 October 2007, 09:15.

And Ann Coulter says Nuke Them!!
http://www.informationclearinghouse....ticle18628.htm
If America thinks nuking is fun let them have a few of those, but before this happens they will probably erase themselves from human kind through incompetence.
Ann Coulter is NOT an "intellectual". There is no such thing as a right-wing intellectual. I remember they had endless debates about this at school during the Thatcher era when it was obvious that right-wing Thatcherism was fundamentally irrational too.
And that defines Ann Coulter: she is totally and utterly IRRATIONAL.
Nothing can be more irrational than wanting to kill - especially anyone who is innocent and has nothing whatsoever to her.
It is astounding that this woman is put in front of audiences by the right-wing and the media. They are demonstrating their dumb ignorance.

yes, the islamic extremists have major beef with the west but there's no smoke without fire.. don't forget the US have been hassling/attacking various middle east states for years.. there is bad blood going back a long time.
the 'war on terror' is conveniently justifying equal, if not worse terrorism to the ordinary folk (extremism is a frowned-upon minority) in the middle-east..
imagine if one of our neighbour nations committed a terrorist act abroad resulting in *us* feeling a heavy rainfall of bombs followed by a swarm of tanks..

The more I think of it, the more (heaven help me) I think the yanks are right. We should not assume that all cultures are equivalent. Some are better than others, and Western society is centuries ahead of its Islamic counterpart. Notice I didn't mention race there.Last edited by sasguru; 28 October 2007, 21:28.

'Million' march against Iraq war
Hundreds of thousands of people have taken to the streets of London to voice their opposition to military action against Iraq.
Police said it was the UK's biggest ever demonstration with at least 750,000 taking part, although organisers put the figure closer to two million.

Not that I'm saying I want America to invade Iran, but it strikes me that we've dropped the ball big time by going into Iraq and now we've got a truly frightning regime in touching distance of developing nuclear weapons.
Dunno about you lot but that scares the sh!te out of me.

Since the end of the Cold War in 1991, the U.S. military has shifted its strategic emphasis from the prospect of fighting a nuclear war to the prospect of fighting simultaneously in two or three regional conflicts using conventional weapon
If they do begin a war with Iran it will be interesting to see what happens in China - would they make a grab for Taiwan?
