Compare installing Abi-Word on Linux to Windows...

    Linux

    Step 1 Open terminal

Step 5 type "y" for yes when prompted whether or not you want to install the package.

    Windows

    Step 1 open web browser
Step 2 navigate to abisource.com The home page of abiword
Step 3 find and click the download link
Step 4 find and click the Windows Link
Step 5 click OK to save when the dialog box opens
Step 6 wait approx 45 seconds for download
Step 7 close browser and all other running programs.
Step 8 navigate to the setup icon and double click it
step 9 select Language click OK
Step 10 click next when the setup wizard appears.

Unless you have a new HP printer - http://forums.contractoruk.com/thread15513.html

Two OSs, same problem - manufacturer not providing drivers. Try again...

Broadcom never publish the specs of their devices, and thus it is almost impossible for open-source developer to develop drivers.
You may have a look at http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/.

    Mr Cowboy Bob,

    you are the man

Got a 7 quid NIC from Maplins, snap in PCI, boot and bingo.

    Hurray!!!

I spent days trying to get the Broadcom Gigabit NIC working.

Only thing I lost with the new NIC was Wake-on-LAN - as there doesn't seem to be a 3 pin male part on the SATA motherboard for the cable.

Whats the NIC make / model?

Might be worth filing a bug report....

The cheap £10 NICs that they sell in Maplins definitely work. Gigabit NICs tend to be a bit more tempramental (and unless you have a Gigabit router - unlikely - offer no performance gain). Just grab a cheap 100 Base T one, it's almost guaranteed to work.

EDIT : In fact PM me, I can send you a spare that I have used with Ubuntu in the past.

started a topic Linux Ubuntu NIC Problem

    Linux Ubuntu NIC Problem

Installed Ubuntu in to VM no probs all hardware working - NIC etc.

Then I installed Ubuntu on a disk - all good except 'no such device' for the NIC !!! (Broadcom NetLink Gigabit)

    How does this happen????

Tried all kinds of things to make it work and nothing

    Anyone know whats happening?

Or a NIC that acctually works with Linux RHEL preferably.
Working...
