I don't get this rush for an India trade deal or why it would be a post-Brexit feather in the cap. India is (and has been) incredibly protectionist in its trade policies, and gets away with it for the same reasons as China does, because they have a large market that foreign businesses need access to. On our side, it's the exact opposite, a government visibly desperate to Sign A Trade Deal and willing to bend over backwards to get it done.
Even from an electoral point of view, I find it hard to believe that the Tories think that an India trade deal will win them any votes. Other than plain old graft, I just don't get the motivation to do this now, a year from a general election. It's bizarre.
As for more liberal access to visas for Indians, looking at the visa statistics, it doesn't look like there's any difficulty for Indians to study or work in the UK now, what does an even more liberal policy even look like?
Kemi flipping Badenoch negotiating across the trade table with the Indian govt and bureaucrats, can't think of anything more certain to deliver a sub-par outcome for the UK. As for Suella, if you go by what she supposedly stands for vs what she's actually delivered, the woman should have resigned 10 times over by now.
