    Nicola Sturgeon and her husband Peter Murrell have blamed a 'simple mistake' after it emerged their car was left untaxed.

    The former Scottish first minister was pictured getting a lift from Mr Murrell in their black Peugeot as she went shopping in Edinburgh.

    According to the Scottish Sun, the couple's vehicle was untaxed and overdue by eight days after they missed a deadline of 1 August.
