That's why it needs jazzing up. Jail time for energy squanderers!

This is total bollox of course. It's been lifted from Blick which makes the Daily Wail look the the newspaper of record. The government gave a press conference concerning possible measures for tackling the energy shortage if it becomes a crisis, suggesting mandating a 19°C maximum temperature in homes. When asked if the police would be coming round with thermometers, and how they'd know if the heating was gas, Guy Parmelin, the responsible minister, said there was no need to police these measures, because the neighbours would be sure to grass up offenders. (This is how Swiss humour goes).

In fact, the responsibility for any criminal measures such as fine or imprisonment lies with the Cantons, not the federal government. What was really going on was the federal government considering various possible ways of achieving energy security and requesting feedback from the Cantons. While draconian measures CAN be put in place (with the agreement of the 26 cantons), they're time limited and then it goes to the people to decide whether to continue or not. It's called democracy. You should try it.

Technically in Switzerland sovereignty is at community (village/town/city) level. But practically it's with the Cantons. Some argue that the federal government controls the army, but of course the army comprises mostly mean whose first loyalty is to the Canton.

The original article (put in place I suspect by a Kremlin stooge) said that swimming pools would be unheated and saunas switched off.

We could be a mod down in a few weeks!

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ation-gas.html

Switzerland considers JAILING anyone who heats rooms above 19C for up to three years if the country is forced to ration gas due to Ukraine war
    • The country could also give fines of up to 3,000 Swiss Francs (£2,667)
    • In gas-heated buildings, water could not be heated to more than 60C (140F)
    • Radiant heaters would be banned and saunas and swimming pools would have to be cold
    • Likely that the proposed measures will be subject to challenges and disputes
    so jail or blankets!

Working...
