I get these boxes when I have another chrome browser window open with a hot text (or whatever they call it nowadays). I switched to that window, dismiss the text and it goes away.

So - you had General or search results open in another window. You had your cursor hovering over that thread which was last updated May 2020, hence the text box. You were in another window of the browser, and due to a bug in Chrome, you still could see the text box.

Eh???? CUK haunting?

This is not a joke. Just woke up my PC to check my emails and there was a box in the middle of the screen:

Google search showed it was an ancient CUK thread I can't recall ever reading:

Where on earth did that popup come from? Can't see any CUK emails.
