I have never been one of those with bazillions of friends. I have a few, close friends and they all know different things so they will never meet.

One of the things I see is a lot of people who say they have a lot of 'friends' at work - but reality is they are actually just work colleagues - rarely do they stay in contact if they move on.
Also if he has anything about him he should be able to go to the local, spend enough time being polite to the bar staff and being a barfly and you will soon have a group of people who you can talk to - although that may only work in small villages like where i live!
But I do have to agree that as my kids go up all the things that used to fill my life before I have kids no longer have the same appeal and you just lose contact with them due to a lack of time to meet up..
And finally - a lot off people are actually winkers and after 2 drinks you get sick of hearing their bull shoot.

There is that apex in your life where you are so busy with the needs of your wife, your kids and your job/career that just simply eclipses everything else. You don't have time to hang out with mates as if you were 20 anymore.
Then when it's behind you (I'm not there yet) you find you have nothing in common with all of your old friends, who have been going through exactly the same.
Its just our lot, the sacrifice we make. I saw my Father face it but he didn't really mind and I don't think I do either - my family are worth it.
