In Edinburgh three years went by and only one neighbour I got to know a little but never saw inside of his place.

Broken community is the result of inflated house prices without inflated wages. Broken economy.

The tourists aren't too much of a hassle in Edinburgh, they tend to keep in between the castle, high street and George street. The airBnBification of the city has been a total disaster though, a broken community.

Glasgow has none of these problems its "if you stink of tulip you always get a space at the bar" approach.

Edinburgh has always been gentrified. Moved to Edinburgh from Glasgow back in 2000, way before airbnb ever existed. You know, every neighbour in Glasgow I knew on first name basis, all chatty. In Edinburgh three years went by and only one neighbour I got to know a little but never saw inside of his place. He'd sit on his doorstep with the cigar holding between thumb and forefinger taking draws like he was master of a large estate. 1-bed bachelor bliss I guess.

Booked a airbnb for Hogmanay in Edinburgh, very pleased. Would take this option ever time before an overpriced hotel room.

Don't know if you live in Edinburgh, so please don't see this directed to you at all, but I found this to be a common behaviour from a lot of snobs and twats from Edinburgh. They talk trash about Glasgow as a default behaviour, then when you investigate a bit, turns out they spent 2 maybe 3 afternoons there in their entire lives.

Having lived in both, I personally prefer Glasgow.

Edinburgh's like a Disneyland version of Scotland. Speaking as very much a native Home Counties guy, I lived in Glasgow (a five minute walk from Kelvingrove in fact) for nine years either side of the turn of the millenium, and I was stunned by what a vibrant, friendly, diverse and "liveable" city it really is. I'm a country boy at heart, but if I had to go back to living in a city, I'd pick Glasgow.

I agree.

Edinburgh is a city only built for tourists. You walk down the street and you barely hear any Scottish voices, most of the people in Edinburgh are either english, foreigners or tourists.

Been living in Edinburgh for 6-7 years now but I'd move to Glasgow in a heartbeat. More vibrant, diverse and with more genuine people. Better music scene. Food and drink scene is comparable to Edinburgh. You get more for your buck if you plan on settling down and buying a house. Glasgow just rules.

I was in Glasgow the other weekend for fun and beer.

Did the open top bus tour - which certainly blew away the morning's hangover and was quite interesting really.

Then drank lots of beer - the good thing about Glasgow is people in pubs expect you to be drunk - sometimes when in other parts of the UK you get the feeling people in pubs get confused by people who have had a few drinks.

Didn't have a fried mars bar though.
