10% less likely we'll be hit by that rock this year than a hard Br***t. So if it does hit, it looks like a crashing out a few weeks later.Originally posted by BR14 View Postno need to worry about Br***t then, eh ?

I think the only realistic thing we (as a human race) could have done was for Musk to get SpaceX to land a Tesla on it.Originally posted by BrilloPad View PostAnd exactly what would we do if it was spotted?
Seems few are taking the potential for an extinction level asteroid impact as a real threat. No 'star wars' style defence system available yet, like Reagan wanted (to protect from rusky nukes). It's been 66 million years since the last one that did for the dinosaurs, so yeah, meh, not our problem. Unless we get unlucky...

It would have hit with the energy of ~5 Megaton nuke. Which if you were under it, might put a bad spin on your day. But only very briefly. However, there's far more of the planet where nobody is than were somebody is, making the chances of fatality rather low.Originally posted by BrilloPad View PostIt would wipe out 99% of the human race. And thus be beneficial for the planet.
But it should have been spotted earlier.

I mean talk about over egging the pudding.
"If it had hit Columbus, Ohio, then there would be Columbus, Ohio, no more. But if it hits somewhere where there is nothing, then not much would happen. If it hits the ocean, it may incite a tsunami, but not one that’s life threatening."
