I heard on the grapevine that they've cancelled almost all IT projects. Glad I'm no longer there.

The place is riddled with middle management promoted beyond their levels of competence so the redundancies are going to hurt people with very few other options.

70% reduction in IT projects implemented a few weeks ago, mandatory savings in other areas too

they're trying to free up as much cash as possible to deal with the Trent issues

I think they've been wanting to do this re-structuring for a while, the middle management layers have ballooned and they could be a hell of a lot leaner and less bureaucratic, so this has been in the works for a while the Trent issues have given them the perfect excuse

But that said if you can fly an R22 you can pretty much fly any other helicopter - Engine management not withstanding.

there's a good reason why almost all helicopters have turbine engines. The R22 doesn't. Luckily it's range is so poor that it runs out of fuel before the engine blows up

It's very lean if it's never used.

I used to know a guy (friend of a friend but we went on group holidays together) that worked in one of the engineering companies supplying RR engine parts. He was a very nervous flyer. Same as a guy I know who is a helicopter engineer in the Navy. If they don't have much faith in the flying equipment maybe we shouldn't be so blasé about flying either.

Since June 2016 there has been, and will continue to be, good and bad economic news. Employment is at record high levels, but productivity is low. Mini builds a new model at Cowley, while Range rover produces one abroad, and so on. There isn't a preponderance of good/bad news on either side. Against that background, the Armageddon foretold by Osborne et al. has signally failed to arrive.

We can go on interpreting the latest blip of static noise as proof positive of our own views on the Brexit matter, or we can stop boring each other.

Better weather brought some much-needed respite to Britain’s struggling retail sector last month as the hottest May on record brought consumers flocking back to the high street.
