    I only managed 4.5 years of permanent work before the allure of contracting took me, I hated appraisals the worst even though they were always excellent. You know, you worked hard and produced miracles but there's been a lot of capital expenses this year...

    This made me realise I have almost identical permie and contracting careers at 23 years each, not counting a few mickey jobs when I left school. I know which half I much preferred doing!

    Well I made it, still going strong and the very thought of going permie still makes me queasy.

    Started out doing C and Ingres now doing Java 8 microservices in the cloud with Big-Data/No-SQL.
