BBC are a bit slow as this has been in the news since April. If you want to see a waste of money due to incompetence then look at what they're using now as a replacement for the Ascension Islands, St. Helena, where they built a new runway yet it was too windy for planes: https://www.ft.com/content/c513794c-...56354?mhq5j=e1

Nah, it's just the BBC bigging it up as usual (the subtext being "tory cuts" have caused the cessation of flights).
The islanders are probably quite stoical about it - islanders usually are.
