They got the Tories on camera cheering a vote against removing a pay cap for teachers, firefighters, police, doctors and nurses. It was a win-win for the opposition - win the meaningless vote and they show how weak the government is; lose the vote and the Tories become the party that cheered a pay freeze for the public sector.

The Tories are muppets but, if we're talking about optics, losing three from the shadow front bench isn't great optics.

They weren't expecting to win, it's about retaining their momentum post-GE and maintaining the pressure on the government... i.e. being a credible opposition for a change.
