Sainsbury's, Bamber Bridge is about 111p for unleaded at the moment.

Ended up not having enough to get me that far, so filled up in Banbury at the Tesco - 113 for diesel. Stopped at that Sainsbury's to grab a sandwich. Will maybe use it again in the future.

In the 50s and 60s, Alabama had the highest percentage of PhDs per capita in the US. There are still some areas where there are high percentages - for example, 8% of the population of Auburn have PhDs, 16% have a Masters and 32% have a Bachelors degree.

That's higher than Berkely, Mountain View, Boulder, Cupertino etc etc.

No idea how that compares to Bridgewater, but Alabama has some incredibly bright people there, some beautiful countryside, and some of the friendliest people I've met.

I was thinking more of the Alabama we see on telly - good ol' boys, incest, racism, everyone permanently drunk on the local brew. Basically very much like Bridgewater.

Just outside Preston there's cheap fuel.

M6 is a long road - might need to be more specific about where you are intending to be travelling and where you might need to stop.

I can vouch for the ASDA Fullwood (PR2 9NP) diesel being 5p cheaper than darn Sarf

I had a new oil fired central heating system put in last year and changed from gas oil (essentially same as red diesel) to Kerosene.

I think you have to add oil to it to get it close to diesel

Still got about 5 gallons of it - maybe I could put it in my van. What are chances of getting caught?

Many many moons ago I was summoned from my place of work as HMRC were requesting the presence of the owner of a LWB Land Rover parked outside, they then instructed me to open the fuel cap whence they proceeded to dip the contents of the tank to check for rebated diesel - which got me thinking about adding a second hidden tank and keeping a nominal amount of pukka diesel in the standard tank

... but speaking to an Irish chap he reckons the Guardia have some kind of testing paper that can detect the emissions from the dye in rebated diesel and they regularly walk up and down traffic queues in Paddy land sticking some kind of litmus paper over the exhaust so maybe that approach is no longer valid
