    I had 2 in London, no mortgage, both bought for a relative pittance in the 90s/ early 00s.
    Paid/paying the eye-watering CGT, yes
    But still left with a nice lump sum which is in an index fund now.

    BTL was being aggressively targeted by Osbourne/Cameron anyway. I think the BTL train has left the station. Property is still attractive as an investment if you buy in cash.
