That happened to me once. So I left the office and went back upstairs to the bedroom to fetch said laptop.

I have one MBP for when I'm in the office provided by the client and my own at home provided by my Ltd, which one I work on depends on where I am (VPN certs and git remote branches is all I need)

I've worked with clients that even the loss of an encrypted hard drive makes the BBC news, any client that insists on me taking their laptop home I ensure I ask for written confirmation that liability will stay with the client for any loss, this is usually enough for a locker, cabinet or drawer on site to be found for me
