That happened to me once. So I left the office and went back upstairs to the bedroom to fetch said laptop.

I have one MBP for when I'm in the office provided by the client and my own at home provided by my Ltd, which one I work on depends on where I am (VPN certs and git remote branches is all I need)

Excuse me if I have no sympathy. AYSYCOTBAC?

I can keep my company laptop where I like in my house.

There as client's laptops it depends on company policy.

No. I didn't even make it onto the floor.

I still have to be escorted round the building as I haven't had my iris/retina scan doobree wotsit done yet.

    I was sent packing

You may want to take a look at this and rephrase that post!

I'd have been out on my ear if I'd done that.
But leaving it lying on your bedroom floor is OK?

Still greater than leaving it in an office, with a security guard that you have to swipe in and out of every day.

I've worked with clients that even the loss of an encrypted hard drive makes the BBC news, any client that insists on me taking their laptop home I ensure I ask for written confirmation that liability will stay with the client for any loss, this is usually enough for a locker, cabinet or drawer on site to be found for me

Anywhere that needs a high level of security will have procedures in place, as taking your secure laptop out of the building is a bigger risk, I would assume you are at a place where they think they know security, rather than a place that does!
