You misunderstand. Murray has been improving for some time BUT Novak's run of form was so scintillatingly brilliant nobody was going to knock him off #1 until he drooped. Novak was an aberration the way Federer was. The standard of the top 4-8 has generally improved a lot of late so that makes Novak's dominance all the more crazy and Murray's recent forum all the more impressive.

We're not technically good enough and haven't been for some time. It's only the press down here that seem to think we have a chance (either that or they simply enjoy building them up to knock them down - see Allardyce as a great example of that).Originally posted by scooterscot View PostSo what's the England football team's excuse now that Icelandic players have gone back to building houses and posting letters?

I think it's safe to say that you'll never see Scotland winning the fitbah World Cup on any argument. You've got to reach one first!Originally posted by scooterscot View PostI only hope I never see the day come when Scotland win the world cup based on that argument.

True, but down to having one of the best trainers out there.Originally posted by scooterscot View PostI only hope I never see the day come when Scotland win the world cup based on that argument.
Murray is playing much better, controlling the anger. Novak was clearly hopping mad smashing a racket off the court a few matches ago.
Yes, but its true. If a lot of your competition are out of action that has got to be a major advantage.Originally posted by scooterscot View PostI only hope I never see the day come when Scotland win the world cup based on that argument.

Its very true, he is only currently the best player due to those others currently not being in it, that and the trainer he now has. Otherwise, he would have been number 1 a lot earlier, no?Originally posted by scooterscot View PostThere's always one.

Well done. Granted, it's really only possible with Novak having a slump, Nadal out of it and Federer currently out of the picture

Yeah obviously all the top players are incredibly motivated but they all seem to talk a lot about how ridiculously hard Andy works on the fitness side.Originally posted by PurpleGorilla View PostAnd train abroad. Credit where credit is due. He has worked exceptionally hard to get there. Great to see after coming from that hell in Dunblaine.
Well done. Granted, it's really only possible with Novak having a slump, Nadal out of it and Federer currently out of the picture, but that's the nature of sport. What will be really interesting is if Novak comes back and we get an epic battle between the two of them over the next few years.

Was listening to his mother on radio this morning and she said he had to travel as he quickly exhausted the competition locally. So he had to travel South (England). Then he exhausted the competition there. So he moved abroad. Many, many sacrifices, but has paid off with both brothers now No. 1.

Who'd have thought the Scottish mars bar eating buckfast drinking diet could have produced the world's best tennis player.
Well done Andy, all that hard work and determination has paid off. Rage on...
