Yep, that's because the Tories were terrible at the time. They'd disappeared up their own backsides in the early 90s after Maggie had been knifed in the back and took a while to sort themselves out after the non-shock of Labour's win in 97. Brown's massive borrowing and social spending bought them more time and a good war victory always helps, as per the Gulf War. Knowing what we do now, Blair would have only lasted one term.

The issue of migration as far as Brexit is concerned is nothing to do with illegal immigration nor non EU immigrationOriginally posted by darmstadt View PostActually it shows what an idiot you are. Checks on EU non-desirables would not have been missed, of course more illegals could have been stopped and then there is the matter that most immigrants to the UK are non-EU but idiots don't seem to take that into account.

But I guess they just keep slipping through the net eh!

In regards to having culture I pointed out in the UK we aren't clones unlike what you make the Germans seem like. This has the advantage of when someone, whether monarch or politician, tries to be a dictator in the UK they get removed from power before they do too much harm unlike in other countries.

You see, this is the reason I'm gonna bring forward my new year's resolution to not look at the news any more.
Let's face it, most of it is downright depressing; doing x,y or z means you're 20 times as likely to get cancer, awful tragedies befalling people, murder, rape, we're all going to hell in a handcart etc.
Then there's the stuff that just annoys you - e.g. vacuous celebrities pontificating on various issues.
What's more, the stuff that should be news isn't news.
So, what's the point?

I was thinking the problem is England does have culture but it is quite 'old' so yes going to the pub, watching cricket, rambling, cold days at the seaside etc etc etc.
Those who do not like it obviously need to move to another country which does have the culture you like.
Now I know for many of you who expect the world to change to what you want because you are mummy's special soldier this is a shock.
But this time you need to put your big boy pants on and fu<k off

Young people don't like drinking. It's older British people who can afford to drink to get hammered.Originally posted by Fronttoback View PostPub culture dying, football culture dying, rave culture dead, youngsters buying property aspiration culture dead-too expensive, family culture dead- people can't afford more than a small family or they choose to stay child free. What culture do you have left?
The indigenous peoples of the UK are amongst the finest in the world. The diversity, ingenuity, braveness, intelligence and humour is unrivalled. But you have no culture other than getting hammered - which you are very good at.
