We know it was the French because they managed to hit a village, if it was the Americans they would have bombed the brits or French.

Unfortunately, this struggle is one of propaganda as much as weaponry. ISIS have been known to be rather cavalier with the truth.
No links yet, but on SW radio, the French are now saying the village was bombed by mistake.
My guess is that the coordinates were given by the clueless US operatives.
