Let's be clear, Cameron and the Conservatives benefitted from a woeful opposition against Brown & subsequently Miliband, not because they were necessarily any good.

Unfortunately politics in general is suffering from every bugger having tried to occupy the centre ground over the last few elections. We could do with some plausible alternatives.

If Johnson was putting his own interests first, wouldn't his safer option regardless of the likely outcome be to acquiesce with the other conformist cowards and join Cameron?

I think Cameron was somewhat disingenuous about Boris having an ulterior motive regarding wanting to be party leader...

I have little doubt that Cameron will have his eye on the future with a lucrative role in Brussels as the prize for keeping the UK in the EU after he stands down.

I have this suspicion too. I have always said at some point you will see Camoron and Bliar both holidaying together on some trillionaire's hyper yacht that costs more than a countries GDP. Both laughing and sipping cocktails.
