Just enjoyed the place, felt really nice and relaxing, I'd go back and intend to, but I doubt it will be the same.

There's a pub in York that has unusual tiles in the gents, they are actually graphics of people in various sexual positions, not porno, kind of 70's uK porn, not even rude! And I well remember Tommy Duck's in Manchester, ladies trollies and bras stuck to the ceiling, kind find it now, suspect it's gone ....

When I was a teenager one of the things we did was wrap presents in magazines or comics, and when we were older a few of the pubs actually walls covered in what appeared to be newspaper. In other words what you think is an unique idea is bloody recycled one.

Spent six months in Berlin, loved it! Spent my first 28 years in Bolton, didn't love it!!

Lot's of Russians there TBH, and not well liked, my Mrs. felt like untermenschen....

Spent one balmy evening in a place called Der Schwartze Cafe, all day brekky to die for, wallpaper made from newspapers, and another place called Zwiebelfisch, all off Ku'damm I think.

UK taxes so high now that paying them in Germany seems a no brainer - only 25% tax on dividends!!!

I agree matey! Like most I assumed working in Berlin is like working in Bolton, but it's not if you want to stay clean. If you relocate lock, stock and barrel you have to comply, and as I see it that's how you have to treat it if you are Mon-Fri contracting in EU. Makes sense to me, no EU State is going to watch someone from another State pay pay no local tax either as a person or as a company. The 183 day thing is bollox.

There are a few EU countries where you can spend up to 182 days in them and not pay any taxes but even then you have to be damn careful to ensure you have one or more directors in the UK, plus have evidence that you are economically based in the UK by being able to show you go back at least every 2-3 weeks to a UK address.

Freedom of movement is just that, not freedom of choosing with tax situation suits you best. You can move, but you must comply.

Agreed. If you have talked to anyone who exports to another EU country it's more difficult than it should be. The only get out they have is that at least they don't have to worry about the actual goods not complying to EU standards if they comply with the ones in the UK.

From what I read Berlin is a very nice city, attracts a lot of talent, in many companies everybody inside even speaks English to make it easier... it's like London, only everything is cheaper and trains go on time ...

I dunno - my guess it's cos Freedom of Movement under the EC directive applies to people not to companies, so its not so clear cut. Company Law differs across EU States so that's never been harmonised. Effectively it might as well be Timbuktu for the company.

Spent last week in Germany, the Mrs went crazy on the autobahn in the hire car, almost 200 km/hr sometimes and she's normally only ever driven a Pug 206 1.1 ltr. We did Frankfurt, Buer, Pfullendorf, Lebach, Frankfurt. Mostly nice but Lebach was a shiithole. And the U and S bahn in FRA full of dodgy looking migrants selling shiite.

I like the rule on the autobahn were the trucks can't overtake at certain times, should have that here. Not that keen on the way they mark out contraflows etc, with yellow paint some of it was a bit far to follow.

Enjoyed it though even if all the food was almost all pork!
