Sure , but reading the article seems that this 30 year old Vietnamese lady has more of a marketing skill than anything else , she was involved in frozen yogurt for several years and could not find a way to scale the business , then she got involved in a screen share app that turned over a million dollars which admittedly was marketed via download , after that something that looks more like a Skype rip off that allows people to collaborate, not exactly the sort of app that going to get large downloads so I presume the skill here was in marketing this to big corp.

Expanding on your answer.Originally posted by DaveB View Post£50 on the UK Lottery gets you the same odds as the App with none of the effort.
The average app in the app store makes less than $3k per year.
And would take several hundred hours of hard work to build, market and support.
A "Killer App" - Angry Birds, Clash of Clans, Spotify or whatever would take many thousands of hours with a large team of people.
For example, Clash of Clans which generated $2.5M per day in 2013, for SuperCell ( who were founded in 2010 and sold for $2.1B in 2013) was developed by a team of 6 people but they had $12M in funding and were part of a bigger company.
So in short .... killer apps do not just appear ... they are carefully built and marketed by large professional teams.

I pretty much stopped buying lines when they doubled in price from £1 to £2, and I believe the odds of a jackpot are now even lower than before.
