The Surface Pro's come with 8.1 and an upgrade option to W10. Having spoke to the external consultants that will be doing the build it makes sense to bring W10 into service rather than 8.1. They are saying that W7 users will transition much easier to W10 because it feels more like W7 from a user perspective. The IT support in this clientco is outsourced so everything costs money. It makes sense to spend the money on a W10 build rather than put out 8.1 now and then spend more money redoing the build. The actual project end date is 3 months away so hopefully some of the earlier bugs might be fixed by then

Coincidentally I have just been assigned a new project today to introduce Win10 to service for 50 or so Surface 3 Pro's. So image build, deployment via SCCM, disk encryption etc. the first issue I've come across is that our current version of SCCM 2012 doesn't support it. Oh we'll it's only day one of the project

Enterprise customers get a different mechanism so they can control when updates are applied, but I don't know that's service packs or simply being able to marshal all your PCs like you can now. Apparently regular users don't even get a choice - you WILL get new updates when they are released.Originally posted by vetran View Postand what do the corporates do with images?
Service Packs weren't there for home users.

Rolling updates replacing SPs doesn't have anything to do with end of life, so I think these are two separate issues:
1)will we still get SPs
2)will we still get new major versions of windows
As you say, I think the answer to 2 has to be "yes". Apart from anything else, they can't bring in major changes like 7->8 incrementally, there will doubtless be future paradigm shifts.

Publicly they are saying Windows 10 is the last OS, with just rolling updates to it as opposed to their traditional model of service packsOriginally posted by d000hg View PostI'm not sure how our two comments are related.
If it is, why would it have an end of life ?
What they are saying does not ring true

I'm going to install it as soon as it comes out, I mean what could go wrong?

Not yet, but as every second version disagrees with me (vista, W8, whatever came before XP), this should be a decent one.
