Getting into contracting NEWBIE
21 years ago I started contracting immediately after leaving uni. But this was at the very beginning of the Internet and there was about 6 people who knew how cgi workedOriginally posted by Pherlopolus View Post22 years ago I got my first contract with 3.5 years experience. It was with a niche legacy mainframe, and I was one of only about 5 contractors in the country with any experience and willing to work wherever for £10 an hour....
So I guess 3.5 years experience is ok if it is very specialist knowledge. I'd suggest another 5 years and branching out into other things would be the best way of getting into contracting
I can safely say it was for more than £10 an hour though

My advice would be to stop posting fake questions under sockie accounts.Originally posted by edb500 View PostHi All,
I would be very grateful if anyone could offer some advice on getting into contracting. I'm currently ready to start working and I'm seeking a contracting role. I have 3.5 years as a java developer in financial services but I'm struggling to get a job as a contractor. Most of the contracting work seems to go through recruitment agencies who demand more experience.
Would anyone be able to offer any advice as to landing a contract role without recruitment agencies.
Thanks

Not much experience, in a single domain, means you're up against ALOT of tough competition.Originally posted by edb500 View PostHi All,
