It's really stunning. If you get a chance, it's worth a road trip from north to south along the coastal road (it reminds me a bit of Route 1/101 in California). The Plitvice Lakes, inland, are also worth a stop outside of the main tourist season. Much of the Croatian coastline has a really strong Italian feel (for obvious reasons), but without the same level of tourism. It's changing though - there are many more tourists during peak season than there used to be.

Much more fun to do a holiday that way, no company booked itinerary to slavishly follow.
Nice pictures, and Venice looks more civilised than in late May/June. I'll definitely have to take a look at Croatia myself.

just got a hire car from Avis, then zoomed down there.Originally posted by d000hg View PostVery nice. How did you find out about it and organise it? Lots of research and self-booking, or through an operator/brochure?
the only booking was a night near Dover , to meet some family, and the ferry.
then we just rocked up to a hotel south of munich, then on to Dubrovnik, venice, Dijon then home.
just taking it easy

nice view over Dubrovnic old town from the balcony

even though it was very warm, 19c, there were few tourists in Dubrovnic at this time of year. The fewer the better imo
