I don't see you arguing they shouldn't have to pay towards upkeep of the roads, street cleaning, etc, which they already do through business rates.

It's probably a very left-wing idea, but what would happen if they made the tube free (within zone 1 and maybe 2 at least) and made companies in those zones pay some sort of fee, based perhaps on square footage or number of employees, calculated so it raises the amount people currently pay?

A totally free system would be absolutely incredible.

There is a lot of conversation in London at the moment about more private investment going into infrastructure. For example I believe that the extension of and improvement to the 'Cycle Super Highway' has had some private investment and involvement from the people that own Canary Wharf, there is also talk of businesses investing in the proposed Bakerloo line extension. If you take ideology out of this, there are people in London politics that are making noise about this as they believe that businesses will benefit.
