Good points but not only do I have electric light. I have second sight, I have amazing powers of observationOriginally posted by yasockie View PostI know your time is probably better spent invoicing than researching TV technology, but 650 for 48 is not that good a ratio, even if you think you you need anything else but the pixels and the remote.
A quick google shows this hi-end 46" Samsung for £429.
If I was to to buy at high street, I'd gone for John Lewis as they give 5 year warranty and they will price match Currys/PC World.
Finally, it's probably fairly obvious that pre-Christmas is not the best time to buy, just a few days more and the bargains kick-in, few more days and the 2015 models kick in (same as 2014 but 2014 ones will be cheaper), then there's CES in Vegas and come February retailers will be begging you to take the once shiny 2014 model off their inventory.
But I guess it also means you can enjoy some quality TV with the missus during those few precious days where you can't invoice even if you wanted to....
now I have 300 channels of sh1t on the TV to choose from

I wouldn't call bottom of the range 6000 series top of the range. Just about acceptable if on the dole would be a better statement.Originally posted by yasockie View PostI know your time is probably better spent invoicing than researching TV technology, but 650 for 48 is not that good a ratio, even if you think you you need anything else but the pixels and the remote.

You really want something better and faster as the screen size increases...

he isn't on benefits so he doesn't need to buy the biggest in the blockOriginally posted by psychocandy View Post48". Is that all? ;-)
Are you sure you're cut out for contracting if thats all you can afford?
BTW. We got a 3D TV. Bought the glasses - another £30 or so a pair. Used them once. Can't be arsed to sit there and watch TV with glasses on my head. (But then I'm the same in the cinema - avoid 3D cos it just does my head in).
Must admit I'm admiring the 100" tellies, the 50" looks tiny on the new wall.
Wall hung are fine, very comfortable to watch if hung correctly.

dunno, it just seemed like same old, same old.Originally posted by woohoo View PostWhat was wrong with the hobbit (in 3d)?
Top tip - if you are an Orc. Just when you are about to batter the humans , the pointy ears or the little beardy ones, just when you have a brilliant strategy , overwhelming numbers, giants machines of destruction, squadrons of war-bats or nazgul, just when all your traps work and you have a moral ascendancy
look to the North
then the west, south and east
go home.
it's not going to work out so well. Tolkein has it in for you. just go home

Indeed, never understood that, just because you can wall mount one it doesn't mean it's a good idea. I've seen a fair few wall mounted TV's in peoples houses and never found them comfortable to look at.Originally posted by GlenW View PostWhy do people put tvs on the wall as if they were pictures? I bought a top of the range bluray player, and it was struggling even with the HD version of "Hobbit the Revenge of Smorg" or whatever it was called. The damned thing kept hanging, obviously unable to keep up with the data rate.Originally posted by EternalOptimist View PostWe went to currys after seeing the Hobbit iii
what a disaster !!!
not currys, the hobbit (in 3d) ...

or just make sure it covers the window so you get no natural light in - that seems to be a favourite in the local chav estates.
