Well Mr C has come up trumps. After much stomping and grumbling he's tackling the move himself.
You can leave the master socket where it is and just open the faceplate. He's going to sort out the DSL extension himself (he did the phone extension years ago).
Yeah, we had a similar problem; master socket downstairs (hallway - always seem to be in a stupid place), but I wanted Infinity in the office (upstairs). Initially, I envisaged cables running along skirting boards, up the stairs etc etc, which really put me off. After some unsuccessful/inconclusive internet searching, I enquired with BT and 'yes' I could have the master skt relocated; price £130; ok, let's get it done.
They came, did a great job, Infinity in the office, but I never got a bill for the skt relocation. Happy days
Had the BT engineer in to upgrade the faceplate, but didn't realise that you could move the master socket to a more convenient place.
So now we have a faceplate, and with a single electrical socket on the other side of the hall have an extension cable running across the hall attached to the modem and router. Cables are everywhere and Mr C is not a happy bunny.
And will be even less happy when he finds out it's going to cost £130 to fix (to bring the engineer out again to resite the faceplate).
