    Quite simple really, seems to use a lot of down stokes hitting the strings with the outside of his fingernails, I think Geddy Lee, bassist with Rush uses (or used) the same technique to get a very sharp attack on the strings.

    Of course, harder to do than to say!

    Clapton just does not have that many good songs. For someone with a career spanning decades there is really not that much there. I was listening to 461 Ocean Boulevard last year for the first time in years and it is quite a poor album.
