I was told once that they were only interviewing two people because one had dropped out, then got a call on the way to the interview to say the other candidate hadn't turned up and said he'd found something else. I sailed through the interview, didn't get the job

Since you actually got through to her rather than finding "she's on another call" she might be telling the truth as "sorry you didn't get it" would stop you hassling her. Plus it's very late in the month/year so things could be slow.
But I would prepare to be disappointed. Hassle big-time on Monday and if nothing, assume it's a no.

I know if it was me I would. I wouldn't be able to do business with a clear conscience if I didn't treat people properly.

Maybe the agency have had a bollocking from the client before about pestering them with a "we'll tell you when we tell you, don't pester us or risk losing your PSL slot"

Agency knows that you haven't got the contract as the end client hasn't phoned them.
Meanwhile you look sad and desperate so even if you had got the contract they will be trying to increase their margin.... But you haven't so they can't be bothered.
Also Experis are big. They used to be called Manpower which should tell you everything you need to know.....

In my experience, following interview, agents are keen to speak to you and then straight away they're onto client trying to get the deal done.
Not this young lady. Had a real go at her yesterday. So far shes declined to phone the client, saying they'll ring her when they're ready. WTF - get off your butt love and phone them to let them know we're keen! Never seen anything like it....
Maybe because we don't understand their mentality, I can't see why a gentle chase\ request for update is an anathama to them, Oh Well, each to their own..
