    The scraps chase you?

Probably 3 at the most but then I don't think I've applied for more than 10 contracts ever, including the ones I've got.

I tailor my CV and cover letter to each application - contract or perm, although I do have templates for each suitable direction. My primary skills are so niche that clients of other areas (even those marginally related) wouldn't 'get it', if I didn't drastically rephrase things for them. I don't apply to much - it's a regional thing, not many jobs locally and I'm done with the excessive commuting. It's usually no more than 10 applications before something works out. Maybe half of those applications get me an interview, therafter success rate is fairly high - particularly within my niche. I have little to no competition there.

    This one is different though.

Some of us are picky, and will tailor our CV and cover letter to each and every app.
Some of us apply blindly for anything that looks good.
And some of us apply for anything <500

Me it's ranged from just over 100 when applying overseas before I reached the UK, to 20 today.

And feel free to share your approach or style of applying.
With me, I'll cold call a recruiter if its something that's really jumped out at me that week.
And I always make sure I update my CV for each application. I think I'm up to my 100th revision in the last few years!
In 2009 I applied for around 400 before I landed a role. Mind you, that role and the one it led on to were some of the richest pickings I've ever had in 24 years of contracting. I guess it was worth all the pain in the end.

Currently I've applied to about 50. All been timewasters so far. I have great skill in picking such clients/agents.

I apply for a lot of jobs but don't hear anything back or get time waster agents phone up. Probably fake jobs, already gone or my CV gets binned for some random reason.

When I do actually get an interview my hit rate is high - probably about 75%. I'm not one to waste everyone's time if I'm not right for the job...

I would never do that. If its not a fun industry, decent company or new technology I want to learn I won't even bother applying.

I never know how many times a pimp shows my CV to the client. I've spoken to them about jobs which my CV is a perfect match for, give them permission to submit but never called for an interview.

My line of work means 1 CV that gets amended as and when i get more relevant experience. Next role will mean all details from 2 filler jobs will be removed and so on. Tailoring is always a good idea if the role needs it.
