I think this is really just a bit of a money spinner for accountants, which I stopped paying for and used my home address a couple of years ago. You get maybe 3 letters a year: one for CT, one for CH accounts, one for the annual return. And the bank won't be happy with your registered address and will want to contact you via your home address anyway.
Your home won't be classed as a business address as long as you don't have members of the public visiting, and whether it is or not is nothing to do with the registered office anyway. And you'll want business use car insurance as a contractor, which again is nothing to do with the registered office.
You have to remember it's quite normal for even large companies to have a registered office that's seperate from their place of business (i.e. the actual office), so the registered address is really irrelevant to all these questions. If you really want to keep your home seperate from your business, hire a real or virtual office somewhere.

You can get an accountant for about £100/month. Watch for hidden extras like having their office as your registered address and doing your (and potentially your spouse's) self assessment, IR35 reviews etc.
All the major lenders/insurers are happy enough with people who work from home occasionally or even permanently. The only time it causes difficulty is if you have business people come to your house for meetings or you store a load of stock or equipment related to your business in your house.
Car insurance was debated here, do a search. My take is that as long as you are just commuting to work and back again and not transporting loads of your client's equipment about or working as a travelling salesperson then you are fine. That said, also be aware that you can often get Business Use included on your vehicle insurance for little or no cost so it's always worth checking and take it if it's on offer.
There are lots of things you will need, I recommend that you have a look at the startup package from the PCG and consider signing up because they will get you sorted with pretty much everything you need. At very least, the PCG website gives you a check list of all the things you need and a ball park cost if you prefer to shop around.Last edited by Wanderer; 16 November 2012, 15:07.

You may need to increase the insurance cover on your car to include business use.
It isn't expensive.

I am very new to this forum and about to start a limited company (Independent IT Contracting ). I have few basic queries regarding setting up a limited company. I would appreciate if you can help me out.
- Can I use my home address as registered address for the limited Company ? If yes, what are the pros and cons.
Yes, but it is best to use an independent host.
- I did read that lots of people use their Accountant address as company address. What are the pros and cons of doing this.
Do not use your account's address. Keep everything separate.
- What is the average accountant fee per month ?
You can DIY but a good accountant should cost about £50-£100
- I have a mortgage for my home. If I use the home address as company, would it effect my monthly payments ? Would it be considered business premises ??
Only part. Forget the idea...
Its only me who will be visiting my clients place to work.
- Would this effect my home/car insurance ??
Yes
- Do I need to inform my bank about this ??
Abount what?
