    I find the opposite is true, having so much money in the bank means I know I could live a decade without working. So why make myself ill just for more numbers in a bank account.

    I have experienced that, although I had to take a day off when the wife was ill and there were no baby sitters for the kids :-(

    Although I still think that there is more money in contracting that there was in the equivilant perm roles. I take home a couple of thousand pounds a month more now than then.

    Sorry, why is that funny?

    I had 2 permie jobs go south within 6 months of each other so I decided that permie work was not really any more stable than contract work and contract work offered more opportunities and more money - hence I jumped and am currently on my second contract and earning a stack more than my last permie job.

    Having worked as a contractor and perm Java dev, I can't say I notice a great difference between the ways of working. Maybe there is in how you look for work. Here where I am now, the only way you could tell who in the team was contracting and who wasn't is by looking at their bank balances.
    Quite possibly but chatting to them I would hope that some see themselves delivering to a client and others see working for their employee. I would also hope the contractors would conduct themselves a little better than employees etc but could start a whole argument about that....
