Thanks gents very much for all your input. I'll have a read of the first timers guide.
Working with two contractors in the current perm role, I have noticed they do go that extra mile and do bits I would not have thought, defo gonna bear that in mind for the future.
I think the documentation templates I am gonna 'borrow' from my current role may help with that.

I was in your position at the start of the year and have just signed my third extension.Originally posted by SupaDoopa View PostHi Guys,
I been in testing for the past 8 years, all permanent roles. Finally took the plunge and started applying for a contract role. Finally scored a role
after searching and applying for over 3 months
!!
Going in as a consultant is totally different compared to starting a new role as a permanent employee.
What I am looking for is any tips I can use going into the role?
The key to remember with most contracting roles is that you are in that position because your cv showcases to the employer that you are a 'safe' pair of testing hands who will be able to take forward the project that you are given.
The advice earlier in the thread about do something that a permie necessarily wouldnt do is essential, i like to do that extra bit and write plans and spreadsheet showcasing what you are going to do.
Good luck and enjoy!!

ftfyOriginally posted by northernladuk View PostYou can read the first timer guides, all the stickies and the links to the right hand side. You can also search the forum using <search term> site:forums.contractoruk.com in googleor the search at the top right.as the search at the top right is useless.
Most of your starting questions will have been asked many many times before.

This is good advice.Originally posted by malvolio View PostWHS. You are only there because you are already an expert in what you do and you'e there to help the permies do the job better. That's the mindset a lot of contractors never actually acquire.
And join the PCG, you know it makes sense.
My advice would be: make sure you have a good accountant.

Nothing is different, as the best thing you can do is foster good will and working relationships. The best defense against ending up here in the future debating fine print in your contract imho.
