A "big cull" probably equates to Hays now

Wonder how contractors working through Hays will far if RBS decides to cut it's ties. I suppose if contractors starting working through another agency, Hays would have a hard time fighting it in court - after all it was their cock-up that caused the problem. The bank will review its relationship with Hays over the coming days, sources suggested.Last edited by centurian; 26 August 2011, 07:44.

Has anyone stopped to think about why everyone's rates were compiled into a list?
I reckon a big cull / across the board pay cut is imminent.

If you read my post properly you would have noticed I mentioned "the same quality of work".Originally posted by eek View PostBecause you know and trust the first one. And he isn't offering much cheapness.
With people like plumbers you can get to see their work by having a look at what they have done for previous customers.
The main difference would be who can do the work you require in a time you are happy with.

That £2000 a day contractor will be specialised and I doubt he is there 5 days a week. I've seen £2000 a day contractors before and assuming sensible management they are used sparingly as required with regimented access.Originally posted by JamJarST View PostAgain that is a flawed comparison though, the difference in ability between a £2000 a day contractor and a £500 a day one is not as big as the difference between the £500 a day and Bob.
Of course as this is RBS (which is now a combination of crap bank and crap public sector) they are probably there 6 days a week on a 5 year rolling contract.

The TGWU part were pissed off when they realised they couldn't get out of paying him that much.Originally posted by JamJarST View PostUnite aren't making people redundant or experiencing financial difficulties so your comparison is flawed, it was also a severance payment so agin not a real comparison.
But you are right it's a flawed comparison.
The fuss being made in the papers is because everyone in the country is propping up RBS, and if we can get people do the same jobs cheaper in the UK then we should.
After all if you have a choice of two plumbers who can provide the same quality of work and the second one is cheaper, then why would you choose the 1st one?

Went for a pint on the way home last night, to be greeted by the usual midweek regulars shouting 'Hoy mangler, do you get 2 grand a day then, must be your round etc etc' but I put them right. 'Takes me nearly four days to get that kind of money.....'

Contractors' salaries are e-mailed to bank staff - Scotsman.com News
David Fleming, Unite national officer, demanded to know why the bank was employing temporary contractors, some on daily rates as high as £2,000 - the equivalent to £50,000 a year - at a time when it is cutting thousands of full-time posts.
