Your CV should be talking about what you've done, remember? Remove your permie time and it won't say much of anything. Condense it to key achievements by all means, but don't lose it until you have some real freelance experience to boast about instead.

And as I have said in the past, emphasise what you have done, not what you might be able to do. Nobody's is interested in your future, only what you can bring to the party now.

Main points I would stress are:
1. What sort of consultant/contractor are you? Dev, test, architect, BA,
2. Your main technical skills, tools of the trade. How proficient are you in each?
3. Recent contracts. What have you done, how did you achieve it.
4. Professional and academic quals.

Don't put hobbies, interests. Don't put your references in your CV (scum agents will just nick them).
Keep it short, to the point and easy to read.

Does a contractors CV differ from a permies?
I jumped from being a permie to landing my first contract 12 months ago without even sending a CV out (just got it via a contact and a quick interview) but I now want to start looking for some more work and was wondering if a contractors CV should be structured differently from that of a permie.
Any advice/tips would be much appreciated.Tags: None
