Never bothered with benchmarking, or comparing my rate with the market. I'll pitch at what I consider a reasonable rate for my skills. Sometimes that's up to 50-60% more than the advertised rate.
Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. No great shakes, overall I've been in contract with a rate I'm more than happy with so the approach works well for me...

In my recent experience even if there was a site offering this kind of information I wouldn't trust it with all the mess going on. The market is just so unstable at the moment I can't see how they can create a benchmark thats accurate for more than a day. The speed the rates dropped and the number people trying to take the p*ss with the rates makes this a very very fast moving target.
Guess it just depends on how 'rough' of a benchmark you want.

Benchmarking
Hi All
Can anyone give me a lead on a site / service that gives good benchmarking in terms of contractor rates in the Telecoms & IT sector (Telecom Engineer).
I have looked at IT JobsWatch does seem to do a pretty good job but just wondering if there is a preferred benchmarking site that is used by contractors.
Thanks for any leads.
