May I suggest a call to their press people in the morning? They must have info they can send you; it's why they exist.

Might sound a little odd but does anyone know of any studies/business sources that help you to calculate the cost of an employee being sat at a desk in the officer every day rather than working from home?

Not rtyin to make a case for myself, I already work from home when I want/need to but somthing for a more general policy proposal.

I've done a couple of studies on this subject in the past, there are some critical variables to consider, including:-

• Heat/aircon
• Cost of office space (per square meter, a consideration for whether any of this will be saved without relocation of the office with associated costs)
• Availability and location of suitable staff
• Oversight culture of the management
• Office furniture
• Parking
• Access control
• Telephony costs (the variations here can be huge as discounts for high volumes are appreciable)
• Video conference facilities
• Secure communications (VPN, tunneled IP over internet, dial in etc)
• IT support costs
• IT infrastructure supply costs
• Health and safety costs
• Sick leave

Some of the variables can be so large that the results are invalid unless done on a case by case basis.

I can only comment on the studies that I did, one represented a 25% saving (excluding salaries obviously) long term, one 11% and one an increased cost due to excessive security demands in the spec and inflexible contracted accomodation costs.

Like all of these things it's possible to get the results you desire by the judicious ignoring of a seemingly minor factor.
