Look at some job ads outside London - you'll soon know the real meaning of taking the biscuit. I've seen junior web dev contracts (ie 18 months experience) offering £7.50/hour.

"Well advertised but we couldn't find anyone so have had to bring in this chap from outside the EU".

Snag is, they haven't read the new rules: roles have to be advertised at a realistic market rate...

very badly paid contract

A few Co's tried the fixed length contract scam in my game in the last slump and luckily things picked up quickly enough before it got off the ground.

If it's games it is probably not a "contract" as you or I understand it.

Normally in games (& CGI) you get taken on with permie conditions, but on a fixed length contract.

Even so, it doesn't sound like that great a role...

I suspect the client has said something like:

Let's see, we pay our permies £28K a year, so divide that by 52 weeks, and then again by 5 days a week, so about £110/day

They cannot be serious!
2 Years industry experience using C++ (and OpenGL).
That's £28K/year which I would have thought has got to at or below permie salary for 2 years exp. Add in the overheads of contracting and what are you left with?
Even top of the range (200/day) seems like a joke...
