...and so that would equally apply to your earlier rant then would it?

What on earth do you think that said about you, to me?

Yes as u say each to their own.

Hang on though, are we allowed to use that expression, it's a bit of a cliche after all, so dodgy will not approve of it! Oh dear...

If I were a newbie contractor I would rather look at a site that presented a wide range of views from all (including opposite) players in the industry. I would (if I were a contractor ) like to think that I would have the intelligence and nous to make my own mind up, rather than accept what an Orwellian ministry of truth and justice might want me to accept.

And sure abc you can say what you like (within the law), but remember that everything a person says tells others a great deal more about the person who says it than anything else.

Someone who presents his views in the form of cliches () will not really be taken very seriously at all.

I'll do whatever I like, thanks. I was actually seeking to improve the editing on the home page specifically, pretty basic stuff that you would expect someone might be adult enough to take on board.

I would not disagree with that (about the the FAQ). But the FAQ was not the subject of my posting, in fact I never mentioned it once.

The comment found on the home page, that I included in-line in my original posting at the start of this thread, was what I was going on about. In no way was that balanced and it is after all what a newbie would first see on happening on the site. Clearly, it could have been made more balanced with a minimal effort by the person who posted it.

I think that the answer on the FAQ from the homepage is balanced and accurate; the worst thing new contractors require is a view from a contractor without any business sense. Contractors are business people, and the margin of an agent is of no consequence. No contractor with business sense would contact one single agency. A contractor with business sense finds out what the rates are, he positions himself, then he´ll contact several agencies, he´ll sound them out negotiate a tough deal. He´ll know the agents that take "too much", because they´ll offer rates which are below his target rate, so he´ll negotiate down or drop them.

    No, you couldn't.

The smiley u use says "confused". Maybe I'm not expressing it properly or something. Basically, the name of the site "Contractor UK" would be taken by any reasonable person in the street to be a site for the benefit of Contractors, not agents. If it was meant for agents it would be called something like, say, "Agents UK".

Anyway, moving on from the name, we all know that historically it's a place that is meant to attract contractors right?

Well, having attacted contractors to the site, if one of the first things they see in the "Recent Updates" section is a piece where an agent is saying that agency margins are "none of the contractors business" then is is potentially giving all newbie contractors that happen upon the side a false and one-sided view of things.

My (simple) point is that if they want to put this sort of item on the front page, it should be balanced out by the opposing view. This view being that that agency margins are the contractors business, or to put it another way it is one of his/her concerns (one of many concerns).

Sorry but that's wrong. If it was a dictatorship they would have sent the blue-track suited men after me by now.
In the end we are (kind of) indirect customers. I mean that, potentially we will make use of the add-on services that are being offered, so we don't pay directly, but they get something from their sponsors. You don't pay for google either do you?

I'd like to write a bit more but I have to go outside while the sun is still shining. Cabin fever is closing in...cheers.
