I spent three years working for Barclays and I always turned up in at least shirt trousers and a full windsor.

May have changed since I worked there.

I'm in banking and I've always worn ties to interviews. We don't wear them day to day (it's business casual) but I've always worn them for the interviews. I've intrerviewed a few people myself as well and I think everybody I've interviewed has worn them except for the women.

I have a friend who used to work in marketing (successfully, he left because it was to stressful).

He used to wear his tie at half mast, in fact not even that, the knot was almost at his belly. One day I asked him if he really thought that this was better than no tie at all. He honestly replied "yes".

It is the one obstacle that I cannot get over.

In everything else I do, knowing what the end result should be and following some instructions to get there is a doddle. But for some reason, learning to tie a tie in a new way just causes me no end of grief.

I keep meaning to learn how to tie the Windsor knot because all I can manage is the "four-in-hand" knot that my Mum taught me when I started school, but haven't got around to it.
Full windsor for me, with a little dimple at the top of the long bit where it meets the knot. Skinny ties seem to be in at the moment, but I'm not a fan. I think you need to have the whole Pete Doherty look going on to pul it off.

If that came up...then game over the contract is yours. If they don't give it to you...then go for age discrimination.

As for the tie...in banking anyway, forget it..no one where's ties.
He asked my age. I didn't think anything of it at the time...

Got another one this afternoon with a Gov agency.

Off to buy a fake beard and glasses now.

So far I've been wearing a suit and tie. The tie doesn't seem to be working for me. Tie or no tie this time?

Just don't overdue it and end up looking like Philip Schofield!

A simpler more enjoyable solution may be to go on a 48 hour bender prior to the interview. Lack of sleep and a hangover always makes me look older than I am.
