Tester, not been on the bench since Feb last year. Feb is never a great month IMHO as everybody is working out what budget is left. They will be spending like mad next month to make sure that all the budget is used up before year end.
TBH test market is looking quite good, there is a big public project that is going to need testers this year (can't remember the name of it, was chatting to a PM who was telling me she was going to need a load of testers to work in London last weekend) so IT spending is not down by any means at the moment.Comment

I thought most budgets were 'reset' in January? The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”Comment

BA not been on bench since December 2006 (left last contract on a Friday to start new gig on the following Monday). Since I started contracting 4 years ago, probably been on the bench for about 10 weeks in total. Fingers crossed, I can keep it that way.Comment

I'm only ever "on the bench" and not working by choice.
If I am on the bench I can get some driving work pretty much guaranteed. Not amazing pay £35k/year but would keep the wolves at bay should I need to. All my financial calcs are worked out on just earning that amount of dough.
All contractors imo need either a few years cash in bank or a decent plan b for when (not if) it goes tits up.Comment

I'm a tester - not been out of work in 3 years. Lots of work if you're prepared to travel.Blood in your pooComment

Well, I'm working at the moment, but only on a dull, boring, piece of XXXX, job that I decided I had to take because I'd been looking for so long.
I was on the bench for 17 weeks before starting here (and had been looking for 8 weeks before I finished).
I do real-time and embedded software development [1], usually for telecomms products (which seems dead as a dodo ATM).
[1] Well that's what it says on my CV, anyway.
