At my current gig, they don't like you spreading germs, so you can always work from your home office if you're ill.

As to contracting or not, it wasnt just about the money for me (ok quite a large part of it was ) - it was also about flexiblity, feeling in control of my own affairs, knowing that if a gig was a bit duff then I'd be out of there in a few months and doing something else, plus exposure to lots of different fields. I always tended to get a bit bored staying in one place for a long time.

In the end (and I should have done it 10 years earlier really) I dumped a very easy role on 45k with better than usual bens, took a couple of months off to chill and put my CV on the net... 4 days later I had a nice local contract were I'm currently hacking Java and getting paid to learn Unix

    Lifes good...

You would take home at least double (unless you have a bad tax advisor), and on £450, quite a bit more.

Looking around at various job sites I can see the daily rate for Java is between 300 - 450 per day.

Can someone tell me how much more money I would pocket via contracting assuming the following:
    1. I contract for a year with no gaps.
    2. I go via the ltd company route
Basically, a lot more than you would permie...and more freedom....
