To hedge your bets you could put up with temp accommodation for the first few weeks of a contract till you can gauge the chances of a renewal.
As far as letting agents and finance companies are concerned I'm an employee of a ltd company (that I happen to own), occupation is IT Consultant, earning whatever amount per year they want to hear (letter from my accountant or favourite company director usually suffices). Had absolutely no problems with any finance or lettings so far. Just got to tell them what they want to hear and work out how to provide confirmation without bending the truth too much. Friends who'll give you a reference for whatever you want them to say are worth having too
Good work that man.

BOBJ - I'm contracting in Macclesfield myself although I live locally. I know a few people who let in the area - care to PM me?

I imagine a hard copy is likely to have the short-term arrangement you are looking for

For flats there tends to be a six month lease but I have never found a problem negotiating shorter terms with landlords. Just ask.

Have found one letting agent in Bournemouth area that will consider it at the mo - they're mainly a holiday let company but do short term (ie 3mth+ lets too)
There maybe letting agents that specialise in shortterm lets for businesses in the area etc.

I'd rather chop somebody else's legs off than share a house with other people. When I bought my place it was because I was sick of sharing with others. Since then, there have been a couple of times when I've put a mate up for a few months. Each time it has driven me spare....strangely though when the last one moved out I think the washing up fairy went with them.
Its the catering thing for me as well, eating out every night is crap as is perpetual takeaways. The frustrating thing is the client is one of these who extends nearly everyone....if I want I'll be able to stay for a while.
The good news is that I've found somewhere - bit on the expensive side especially when you consider bills, but I reckon I'll have a five minute drive to work plus it is an excellent location for my training to reduce the world marathon record...i.e. it is flat not like home where if you're not on a hill you must have left the county.

Having had a house fire 8 weeks ago, now living in rented accomodation - yes I can agree - the estate agents don't like 3 month lets! We had to persuade our insurance co to do a 6 month one.
I rented for 4 months in Nottingham recently for a contract, as well- just rented a room in a house privately, found it on the web, it worked OK. Other people I knew there found private lets of whole flats, where previous tenant had signed a longer lease then had to move on.
I would far rather be in a room, and able to cater for myself etc - than in a hotel room Monday - Friday.
I had to agree to it sight unseen, but it worked out OK

My current contract is also for 3 months and I did not want to stay in a hotel room either, so I just rented a room/house share. There will be plenty around, get on some renting sites like easyroommate.com. Its not ideal but its a lot better than staying in a hotel room IMHO.
Regards
Barrie
