Given that they will get a benefit from you not being there as well, pick the phone up and see if that's mutually agreeable.

If it isn't then accept it.

A Monday - Friday isn't really different from ordinary lodging agreements but you might be able to get money back if the room will be used by someone else.

The only strong reason a Landlord would have for not giving you cash is opportunity cost, ie not being able to let the room to someone else. If your absence is convenient to them then they might be open to giving you some money.

It can be also problematic to find a Monday - Friday lodger, depending on where this place is, so that's leverage too, potentially.

Are you talking about a shared room in the landlords house?

You've got nothing to lose by asking but why leave your clothes there? Why not bring them back and then the room is empty so you don't need to pay? He might get a beef on and rent it to someone else next year so might have to offer a retainer or at least pay upfront for next year or something. You'd imagine it's very unlikely they will get anything over xmas so should be open to a retainer for 2 weeks.

I don't think you need a very formal written document but I'd get the arrangements and costs at least in a mail so he doesn't gazump you.

Christmas money off?

Hi all, long time no post hope everyone well.
Probably posting in the wrong place (soree in advance, please move if needed) but does anyone have experience of asking for money off a Monday to Friday rental arrangement? I'll be away two weeks over Xmas. I'll leave my clothes there but wondered if this was being cheeky. At the same time, I can't lock the door when I'm gone and open it at the weekends...I don't have a formal written contract agreement.
